Overview

The countryside surrounding Bardia National Park is for 50% inhabited by the indigenous Tharu people. They were the first people to cultivate the land and even today they mainly live on agriculture. During this virtual tour on Zoom, your local Tharu guide takes you live on a walk through the countryside and will tell you all about their farming methods. In the month of June this mainly focuses on planting the rice. And in October on harvesting the rice. The other months we also pay attention to agricultural activities, fishing and livestock farming.

Highlights

  • A walk on the countryside along rice, wheat and cornfields with your local host.
  • Learn about the whole proces of rice plantation (june) and rice harvesting (october)
  • Watch the traditional methods of agricultural and livestock farming and learn about the crops they grow.
  • Ask your questions directly!
  • Support a local expert and his community

Important to know

What is a virtual tour?
With a local host you will experience Nepal in real time. Just like a regular tour with a guide. The only difference is that you are not on the location. The host will share his knowledge and passion and you can ask questions by using the chat. The host will answer them.
What do I need to join this tour?
To join this virtual tour you need a computer, tablet or mobile with a stable internet connection. For this webinar tour we use Zoom. Zoom is an online platform for meetings. If you use your computer, you do not need to download or install software. If you use a tablet or phone, you need to download the app. You can test Zoom here: https://zoom.us/test.
In what time zone are the virtual tours conducted?
The starting time of the virtual tour is mentioned in GMT+1 (or GMT +2 in summer). Amsterdam time.
Can I tip the host?
At the moment it is not possible to leave a tip for the host yet. The prices of the virtual tours are based on regular income for Nepalese guides. In the future it will be possible to tip the host if you are happy about the service.
Can I also book a private tour?
Of course that is possible. It is a great experience to attend this tour with only your friends, family or colleagues. Contact us by mail or chat to schedule a date and time.
Can I reschedule or cancel my reservation?
Until 48 hours before the start of the virtual tour, it is possible to reschedule your booking. To reschedule your booking, you can contact us by mail. If you choose to cancel the booking more than 7 days before the original date of the virtual tour, you will receive a credit voucher for the full value of your payment. If you choose to cancel the booking less than 7 days before the original date of the virtual tour, you will not receive a refund.
Are virtual tours also weather dependent?
The month of June is the time that every farmer is plowing the field with his oxes and that many ladies go together into the fields to plant the rice. Because this is a live tour outside, every tour takes place at a different spot. If the weather forecast predicts rain, we will have to cancel and rebook the program. Take into account that the data connection in Nepal are vulnerable and sometimes the connection can get lost.

Almost real Farming Tour

The Farming Tour I did was virtual, but was close to reality. I know this area but never was there in the hot wet summertime. So I could never see the harvest of the rice. This was a new view to me and the guide was telling in detail what happened. I put questions and within one minute they ware answered. As I know from reality the guides are very gentle and hospital. I am going to do another tour and hope more and more people will.

Tharu Farming Virtual Tour

It was an interesting and beautiful tour over the rice fields. The guide told us several things about these fields, like processing and the farmers. You see the locals working on the field. A good impression of the daily life in Nepal. It's a very nice idea to book this virtual tour.
